That’s the whole idea behind Lewegene.
Right now, when someone in Ethiopia needs help — a surgery, school fees, a funeral, a new well for their village — they carry that weight alone. They post in a WhatsApp group. They ask around. They hope someone sees it. There’s no real place built for this. The few that exist barely work. Some are empty. Some look like they haven’t been touched since 2010.
So we built Lewegene. A home where one person’s heavy load becomes fifty people’s easy gift.
Here’s what makes it different.
It listens. Most giving platforms make you type everything — your story, your goal, your bank details. Lewegene lets you just talk. In Amharic. In English. In Afaan Oromo. You speak your story, and it becomes a campaign. Because not everyone who needs help has time to sit and type. Some people are standing in a hospital hallway.
It’s honestly Ethiopian. We didn’t just translate an American app. Every donation is checked and verified through a real Ethiopian payment system, so people trust that the money they give actually reaches the person who needs it. Every page is built around how Ethiopians actually give — through community, through trust, through showing up for each other.
It makes giving feel like something. When you donate, you don’t just get a receipt. You get a certificate — beautiful, almost like a piece of art — that shows you as part of the fifty. One person among many, each carrying just one lemon, so no one carries all fifty alone. Something you’d actually want to share, because it’s something to be proud of.
It’s honest about trust. Every campaign gets checked before it goes live. Every payment gets verified, not just assumed. We built it this way because asking people to give money means we owe them the truth about where it’s going.
We’re not trying to be the biggest platform. We’re trying to be the one that finally works — for real people, with real needs, in their own language, built with their own traditions in mind.
